If when you click on the desktop icon and nothing happens, try this. Browse to EVE Online\launcher\cache and there should be an "updater" program in there. Run that and see if it fixes your problem.

I'd use Linux if more games were developed for it. I like it better than Windows and Mac. That said, it's doubtful they'll support a Linux client anytime soon. (sadly)
